UCLA missed out on another top recruit, as Terrence Jones announced Friday that he will attend Washington, in what became a big day for the Huskies.

Jones, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Portland Jefferson High School, was twice named the Oregon 5A player of the year. He averaged 32 points and 13 rebounds in leading Jefferson to its third consecutive state title last season.

Jones will be joined by Jefferson teammate Terrence Ross, who also picked Washington on Friday. UCLA had also recruited Ross.

“I wanted to go to a school that was ready for next season,” Jones said. “I also wanted to stay close to home. As I have said all along, I want to play with Terrence Ross.”

A Web site that promotes Islam is warning the creators of the television cartoon “South Park” that they could be killed for airing a recent show that depicted the Muslim prophet Muhammad in a bear suit.

The site says in an entry posted Thursday that the authors of the irreverent cable show, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, could wind up like Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh. He was killed by a radical Islamist in 2004 after making a movie that featured a beaten, naked Muslim woman covered in writings from the Quran.

The post includes a photograph of van Gogh with a knife protruding from his chest.

Mountain Winery lineup features more than 50 acts, some appearing for the first time PDF Print E-mail

Country star Martina McBride, classic-rock crew Yes, R&B vocalist John Legend and former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr are among the top acts scheduled to perform this season at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Other big names include Motown legend Diana Ross and comedian/banjo man Steve Martin.

In all, the venue's 2010 lineup, being announced today, includes more than 50 concerts. Tickets for all shows go on sale at 10 a.m. April 26 at www.livenation.com, www.mountainwinery.com and 1-800-745-3000.

The concert season opens June 1 with a performance by the multiplatinum pop-rock troupe the Goo Goo Dolls and stretches through Oct. 8, when the forever young classic-rock band Cheap Trick plays. In between, fans will enjoy an uncommonly diverse lineup. Here's a look at some of the top offerings, by genre:

Country/bluegrass:

Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson, two of the best songwriters in the business, co-headline June 16. Comedian Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers travel the bluegrass highway June 22-23. The always-reliable Lyle Lovett brings His Large Band to the venue July 22. Martina McBride, a multifaceted entertainer who usually performs at large arenas, is set to appear July 26.
